If you've been out of the dating loop, finding your way back into it is no easier -- or harder -- in Greenville than in other places, say local counselors.
You may not need a map to find that special someone -- just an idea of what you're looking for.
"My advice is find out where the people who you want to meet congregate," says Dr. Paul Rasmussen, psychology professor at Furman University.
If you're looking for folks who are more "outdoorsy," for instance, then you might join an environmental group; or if you're athletic, consider joining a group such as the Greenville Track Club. "So there are just clubs all over the place," Rasmussen says.
Churches are another viable option, he says, particularly here in the Bible belt.
Tanika Chancellor, 25, is singles coordinator for the singles ministry at Valley Brook Outreach Baptist Church in Pelzer.
The group has monthly Bible study. Topics of discussion include dating, sex, personal finance and building healthy relationships, says Chancellor. They get together for fellowship dinners, bowling, movies and other activities.
But it's not all about dating, Chancellor says. "Our focus is teaching people who they are. It's holistic in nature."
