Rev. Sherman was truly a man with his roots planted by the deep waters. He was born June 11, 1914 and called home June 15, 2004. He was married to the late Mother Elizabeth Carter Sherman for 63 years. Mother Sherman was truly a helpmeet for Rev. Sherman. God called her home August of 1999. We do thank God for the precious memories and the blessings they were in all our lives.
Through their union they have eleven children - seven girls and four boys; forty-two grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. Through his ministry many souls were saved, rededicated, and delivered. To date, thirty-one sons and daughters are preaching the Word because of his ministry.
Rev. Sherman was a firm believer that "Prayer is the key to the Kingdom and Faith unlocks the Door". Because of this belief, he raised all of his children with nightly family prayer in the home. He then formed prayer bands through which two churches were formed: Rock of Ages Baptist and Valley Brook Baptist Church. He also pastored at Snow Hill Baptist in Fair Play.
Rev. Sherman could have sat back and rested on his laurels, but instead he continued to build the kingdom as a prayer warrior. He was a blessed man who trusted in the Lord and we are all blessed just to have known him.
